Two!

We still can't believe our big girl is 2!

Hannah prefers frosting to cake.

She loves her new baby "Aya" (named by Luke) from Meme and Pepe.

Hannah could tell that Mommy was just a little bit proud of the homemade tutu, so she deigned to try it on. . .
Hannah enjoys her new rocking chair and new baby Maggie (from Nana and Grampa).

Getting Ready for Halloween . . .

Trying out some costumes - Luke is now planning to be a skeleton, while Hannah shows off the top of her ladybug costume.

Hannah shows some great ghoulish Halloween spirit as she cooks up some babies (!) for dinner.

Hannah and Grampa love the cabin!

Apple Season

Luke and Hannah check our apple harvest from the trees we planted in the spring - one delicious apple!

Hannah examines the apple up close--it's a variety called "Freedom".

Luke and his friend Mary horse around at the orchard. We went on a hayride on the weekend, where we saw the orchard, heard the many dairy cows mooing, petted the barn cats, examined the apple-washing and polishing machine, and sampled some Honeycrisp apples.

Luke checks out the view during the hayride.

Labor Day Weekend & More

We went to Lake Meyer for our first fishing excursion - Luke shows off one of three fish he and Bruce caught.

Luke demonstrates his casting technique.

We visited Forestville - a living history museum set in 1899 that is a short drive from the cabin, that features several original buildings, a general store, chicken coop with chickens, and a big garden. Hannah shows off a new bonnet.

Hannah feels the prickly skin of a wild pickle.

Sarah and Maria made a homemade pole to fish for trout, while Luke and Bruce look on.

Sarah and Maria wait patiently for a bite.
Luke and Grampa get ready for a wagon ride.

Hannah sidles up to the juice bar.

Nana, Grampa, Sarah, and Maria enjoy breakfast on the cabin porch.

Maria and Hannah snuggle in Nana's bed.

Luke and Hannah were so excited to have cousins Sarah and Maria up for a visit.

Luke and Bruce take a quiet moment over a glass of milk in the backyard.

A half-and-half squash from our cabin garden.

Luke takes care of those pesky stray leaves inside the house, while Hannah looks on.

Hannah is ready to be cooked up for dinner!

Luke likes to have his maracas ready for an impromptu concert.

Summer Fun

Luke and Daddy take a walk to the trout stream. This is the road that runs alongside the cabin.

Fun in the mud at the trout stream - thank goodness for extra clothes and shoes that rinse off!

Luke inspects the cabin, while Hannah shows the beginning of her famous scowl . .

Hannah prepares for her attack on the "blackcaps" - she likes eating the wild black raspberries that are in season for a few weeks.
The trout stream near the cabin is a good place to be on a hot, muggy day.
A family of baby thrushes (we think) made a nest outside the cabin.

Luke and Hannah love hanging out in Luke's bed. Luke's latest favorite accessory is a pair of headphones (not attached to anything!).

Hannah's first haircut.

Hannah grins at Luke's antics during dinner, of which there are many, mostly involving enormous messes!
Luke contemplates his next song choice while he and Pepe play guitar together during Pepe and Meme's visit to Decorah in May.

Luke snuggles with his cousins Sarah and Maria during our visit in June to Madison, WI for Bruce's cousin Devin's high school graduation.
